Ok this is Tuttifrutti signing in for duty!
So my first idea for your project for the proj blog is paper mache!
So on the side there is that paper mache slide show, that hopefully you can see...
Well this is how you do it! For the best results:
1. Mix the paper mache glue ingredients:
you will need flour, water and a good supply of recyclable paper. You begin by stirring three parts water into one part flour until a smooth and creamy mixture results. It is best to add a few drops of oil of wintergreen so that the paste has a longer shelf life. Wintergreen oil is obtainable at most drugstores. After stirring it all together properly the paper mache paste is ready for use.
2. Then you tear the paper, preferably old newspaper, into long thin strips.
3. You get whatever you are going to paper mache, maybe a balloon in this circumstance.
4. You take the long paper strips and dip them in the paper mache mixture, covering all the paper in a nice thick layer.
5. You drape the strips over the balloon, leaving a space for the tied off part. Put several thick layers of paper over the balloon.
6. Put the ballon is a space where it can dry easily and quickly and cannot be disturbed.
7. Wait a day or two or until the paper is fully dry. Then take a pin or scissors and pop or cut off the end of the balloon. Then carefully pull the balloon out of the paper mache. You can cover up the bottom part if you want to.
8. You are done! Now you can do whatever you want to with it. The most fun thing to do is attach some of the long paper strips to the bottom, 8 to be exact, paint it purple give it cute big eyes and attach the 8 "legs" to the sides and bottom of the octopus (or a spider!) This is a great pinata!
Hope it works well for you! Remeber paper mache does not have to be just octopi and spiders, it can be anything you want!
Get creative!
